Precision Components and Custom Parts Designed for a Variety of Industries and Applications

Carpenter Technology’s Special Products Division provides comprehensive value-added machining, finishing, and testing of precision components, slugs, preforms, and hollows for demanding industries, including Aerospace and Defense, Oil and Gas, Transportation, and other industrial applications.

Material Selection and Development Expertise

The Special Products Division has access to a vast materials portfolio containing more than 300 grades of high-performance CarTech® stainless steel and specialty alloys, titanium alloys, and metal powders.

We utilize our range and depth of alloy products, along with industry-leading metallurgical and product development expertise, to assist customers with process specification, including alloy chemistry criteria, interpreting engineering drawings, 3D modeling, and rapid prototyping.

Precision Machining and Finishing Capabilities

Customers turn to the Special Products Division to produce complex, precision components tailored to the exact specifications required to achieve their desired performance characteristics, longer service life, specific strength, and cost vs. value ratio.

Through a unique supply chain management program, our high-quality alloy metal blanks are forged, ground, and milled to tight tolerances. After which, a variety of precision machining and CNC techniques are used to fulfill customers’ production-phase needs—from in-process preform to finished parts, ready for use or assembly.

Complex Components for Demanding Industries

Special Products Division supplies customers in the Aerospace and Defense, Oil and Gas, Transportation, and other industrial sectors with custom preforms, CNC machined parts, hot work and cutting tools, thread rolling, and die forging specifically designed for precision and high-durability performance.

Aerospace and Defense:

  • Aircraft components, including: bearing cages, structural elements, helicopter shafts, cams, fasteners, landing gear, and actuators.
  • Specialty alloys and composites with high specific strength (strength-to-weight ratio), as well as uniformity and balance for high-cycle (rotating) parts.

Oil and Gas (Petrochemical):

  • Non-magnetic housings, valve components, couplings, plugs, seats, sleeves, and other wire-line logging instrumentation, MWD, LWD, extraction, and distribution equipment.
  • Designed-in durability to withstand highly-corrosive environments, such as H2S04, sour gas, high temperatures, and downhole pressures.

Transportation and Industrial Applications:

  • Precision machining and finishing of simple or complex parts, specialty shapes, and subassemblies within vehicle power and drive trains, chassis, and safety systems.
  • High-strength and elevated corrosion-, pressure-, and temperature-resistant components designed to solve unique challenges faced in industrial settings.
